Nothing Called Today and I Answered
By David Avila

the moment doesn’t wait for you
she carries on beyond the grasp of a hand that doesn’t hold yours
yet you are pulled
ever onward
forward into nothing
another moment opening up

a world broken down with a banner that says am I who did this
am I set up for this
am I wanted here in this space

I cannot pray for light in a dark where hands are the only thing that see
they see nothing
are my hands the nothing that they see
a phantom awareness of a time that once was
and what no longer is bringing forth an unstable unwavering voice
one whose call can be heard only by he who knows what to listen for
a cacophony of sounds all around

can you hear the voice
it's there if you know what to listen for
all else drowns out the rest and what you hear isn’t you
it's not something else either
it's simply nothing

and left with nothing you have nothing left but to embrace the next moment
as it shows up
watching waiting patience praying undo timing world decaying
entering into a future that pulls you ever onward
forward

and the only escape are the words that don’t actually exist
that aren’t actually here
that don’t reveal anything aside from yourself to you
and myself to me
and what’s inside comes out nothing nothing nothing more than it once was
